Inspectors adopt bylaws and approve letter to judge to opt board off oversight

The Warren County Board of Inspectors adopted edited bylaws and approved a letter to the judge to opt the judiciary off the board at its April 28 meeting.
Nathaniel Schmidt, the county solicitor, told the board the committee had two questions: whether the board could reduce the number of commissioners who sit on the board and whether hiring and termination authority could be delegated. “Can we reduce the number of commissioners that sit on the board, and the answer is no,” Schmidt said; he added that while the Warden may make recommendations, the board is required to approve hirings and terminations.
Treasurer Lisa Barr moved to adopt the bylaws; Commissioner Daniel Glotz seconded the motion, which carried unanimously at 3:10 p.m. The board then considered a prepared letter to the judge to opt off the board; Lisa Barr moved to send the letter, Cody Brown seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Solicitor Schmidt said he and Chief Clerk Pamela Matve had prepared the letter but had not sent it pending completion of the bylaws.
Board members discussed logistical concerns, including Commissioner Tricia D. Durbin’s suggestion to allocate budget funds to advertise for special meetings when necessary. The board did not change the composition requirement for commissioners in the adopted bylaws.
