Public commenters urge free school meals; resident asks for slide deck to be posted

Michael Friend of 2013 Linden Street asked whether the slides presented that evening—different from the agenda packet—would be posted for the public; the board president confirmed the slideshow would be made available.
Reverend Steve Davis of 740 Center Street urged the board to provide free meals to all students to avoid stigma and ensure children arrive at school fed. "Hunger has no place in the classroom, and no child should have to wonder where their next meal will come from while they're trying to succeed in school," Davis said. He told the board that more than 21 congregations had signed a letter supporting universal free meals and argued the cost could be modest on a per-property basis.
The board did not take action on the request during the meeting; public comment was received and recorded for future consideration.
