District design committee to launch community engagement; feasibility study RFP planned

The Bethlehem Area School District on March 30 described a phased communication and engagement plan for its district design committee and signaled the start of a feasibility study procurement process.
Doctor Silva told the board the communications launch will include an introductory video, a public-facing website portal, parent and community surveys, faculty and staff focus groups, and scheduled briefings with higher-education partners and municipal leaders. "Launch communication starts today," Doctor Silva said, adding that the process will lead with information and listening concurrently.
Silva said April 8 is set as the committee kickoff and that the RFP to select a feasibility-study consultant is being developed; the district expects to evaluate proposals and award a contract in June. The feasibility work will take additional months and will produce scenarios that the committee and the board will review and iterate before any final decision.
The board emphasized that the committee's work is deliberative and that decisions have not been made; the board will provide guidance to the committee and ultimately make the final decision once the feasibility study and community input produce options.
