The SC Public Charter School District board on April 23 approved a midyear FY26 budget amendment, accepted the March financial report and recorded the first reading of the FY2027 district office budget.
A district finance presenter (identified in the meeting as Nick) outlined the FY26 amendment, which includes a midyear 5% salary increase for all staff (including the superintendent), additions to support the 14 transfer schools and alignment of actual revenue to the fiscal forecast. The presenter said the net increase in revenue tied to the amendment is "approximately $449,000" compared with the original budget.
The board then heard the March financial report showing district revenue through March 31 of more than $169.4 million and expenditures of over $169.2 million, producing a net gain of $164,238 for the year to date. The district office fund balance increased from $3,462,766 to $3,627,004, reflecting a positive operating position for the month.
Trustees unanimously approved the budget amendment and the March financial report after brief discussion. During budget Q&A, members asked for job descriptions for the seven new essential FTEs proposed in the FY27 first reading; staff said they would provide a list and descriptions. The FY2027 first reading presented a conservative revenue forecast for the district office (about $7.8 million) and proposed a 3% cost-of-living increase and an increase in essential staff from 38 to 45 positions to support the larger portfolio of schools.
The board accepted the first reading by voice vote; final adoption of FY27 will follow the normal process after additional information and any necessary amendments.
