Westwood to add park cameras, move K–3 summer playground to Middle School and install AED at Berkeley Field

Fields and utilities: The director reported that every field is ready for spring programs and that Veolia has installed seasonal water meters at Brookside and Meadowbrook Parks.
Summer playground logistics: The board was told planning for the Summer Playground Program is underway. Resident registration begins Friday, May 1; non‑resident registration starts Monday, May 11 and will be limited. The Grade K–3 program will be held at the Middle School because Berkeley School is undergoing HVAC work and will not provide classroom or gym access.
AEDs and safety equipment: Following a request from the Baseball Association, Buchheister said the borough will install an automated external defibrillator (AED) on the outside of the shed at the Berkeley School Field so it is available to everyone using the facility; the minutes also note existing AEDs at Brookside, Meadowbrook and Westvale Parks.
Why it matters: Camera installations, AED placement and field readiness affect safety, access and where programs are held. Moving the K–3 summer program to the Middle School could change drop‑off logistics for families and limits use of indoor spaces due to HVAC work.
Next steps: The minutes record planned installation dates and registration timelines but no formal votes on capital ordinances; the McKinley Park playground ordinance is still in process.
