Crawford County council elects leadership, sets public-comment rules and fills board seats

The Crawford County council held its reorganization meeting on Jan. 6 and moved quickly through officer nominations, housekeeping rules and board appointments.
President (role self-identified at the meeting) opened nominations for council president and vice president, and members nominated and seconded candidates before confirming officers by voice vote. The council then voted to keep certain appointees to regional boards, including redevelopment and Region 13 representation; the motions passed by voice vote.
The incoming president proposed several standing rules for 2026: a three-minute public-comment limit, a policy of not considering midyear pay increases outside of budget season, and offering the option of a pledge of allegiance or a brief prayer at the start of meetings. Council members asked the county attorney to check whether any of the proposals require formal ordinance action; the president said staff would follow up before the next meeting.
The meeting also assigned signatures and follow-up for an economic development contract described by members as unchanged from last year. Council members said they would circulate copies of contracts and collect signatures from those assigned.
The council adjourned after completing the reorganization business and routine agenda items.
The meeting was conducted in public session; multiple motions were approved by voice vote. The council indicated staff will return with legal guidance on proposed meeting-rule changes and with signed contract documents on the EDC/RDC item.
