Superior confirms Chris Carlson as public works director; mayor honors departing councilors

The Superior Common Council confirmed Chris Carlson to the public works director position effective April 15, 2026, by unanimous consent during Tuesday’s meeting.

The mayor noted Carlson’s long career with the city—roughly 11 to 15 years in public works, including service as assistant public works director—and thanked outgoing director Todd Jannigo for his long public service. The mayor said he would not formally call Carlson to the microphone but welcomed him and congratulated him on the confirmation.

The mayor also introduced Mary Osborne as the city’s new communications and tourism director and invited councilors to greet her after the meeting.

During public comment, a resident identified in the record as J. Akervik said he had contacted zoning and planning about a proposal to open a manufactured-home dealership in Superior but had been unable to find a path forward. He asked where to go next; the mayor (who identified himself as chair of the plan commission) offered to speak after the meeting.

The mayor concluded the meeting by presenting plaques and extended remarks honoring three departing councilors, including Mark Johnson, Councilor Fennessy and Ruth Ludwig. In his remarks the mayor singled out Ludwig’s long service and called her work in the chamber notable.
