Florence 1 board upholds several student appeals decisions, grants limited probationary return

The Florence 1 Schools Board of Trustees met in executive session to hear student appeals and a no‑trespass appeal under board policy JED. When the board returned to open session it announced several actions.
The board granted two early‑admission requests (students seeking first‑grade admission under the policy provision that allows admission for children who attain age six on or before Nov. 1 with a written request by a parent or guardian).
On a separate student appeal (the first of three), the board upheld the hearing officer's decision but suspended the provision and allowed the student to return to the home school on strict probation; as part of that motion the student will not participate in prom or similar senior activities but may participate in graduation if graduation requirements are met.
With respect to the second and third appeals, the board moved to uphold the hearing officer decisions for both cases. Finally, the board upheld a no‑trespass finding but voted to have the no‑trespass expire at the end of the current academic year.
Board Chair Porter Stewart read the motions and the board approved each by voice vote.
