Oceanside reports temporary weir repair; permanent fix awaits permits

Jamie Timberlake, Oceanside coastal zone administrator, told the committee that the weir is under temporary repair while the city works with resource agencies on permits for a permanent fix.
Timberlake said the planned permanent repair would use interlocking steel sheet piles driven in front of the existing weir structure and that the weir is a temporary measure until the larger Buena Vista Lagoon enhancement project moves forward, at which point the weir could be removed.
"We are still waiting on permits," Timberlake said, noting that resource agency review takes time and that the city will pursue the more permanent sheet-pile repair once permits are secured.
