Regents accept outside-review findings; dismiss one complaint and direct disciplinary proceedings in another personnel matter

Following a closed session held under citations to the Iowa Code, the Iowa Board of Regents on Feb. 26 publicly announced actions on personnel matters that the board had considered in private.

President Kramer read a public statement summarizing a phase-one review conducted by the outside firm Consavoy McCarthy. The board then voted on two items: (A) to accept the findings and recommendations of Consavoy McCarthy in the investigation of "employee a" and to dismiss that complaint, and (B) to accept the findings and recommendations in the investigation of "employee b" and to direct the University of Iowa to initiate disciplinary proceedings under applicable university and board policies. Both items passed on roll-call votes recorded in the public minutes.

Kramer said the review concerned "confidential personnel matters" and alleged violations of law, university or Board of Regents policies; he said the next step is a broader phase-two compliance audit of all three universities by Consavoy McCarthy to ensure compliance with cited state and federal requirements. Kramer emphasized the board’s obligation to comply with the law and stated the board would not release personnel specifics beyond the public motions and votes.

What’s next: The University of Iowa was directed to begin disciplinary proceedings in the notified matter; the board said phase-two work by Consavoy McCarthy is already underway and the board will report progress as appropriate consistent with confidentiality requirements.
