Tallmadge schedules Southwest Avenue waterline meeting, launches citywide sewer inspections
Summary
City staff announced a community meeting for March 10 about the Southwest Avenue waterline replacement and said the city has begun CCTV sanitary-sewer inspections; the waterline work will require small easement expansions because lines were not buried deep enough and froze this past winter.

Assistant Director of Public Service reported on March 9 that the city will hold a community meeting for residents affected by the Southwest Avenue waterline replacement at Ritchie’s Shelter House on March 10 at 6:00 p.m. Staff said the replacement requires slightly wider easements because the existing lines are not buried deep enough and repeatedly froze during the recent winter.
The assistant director explained that the water department provided temporary water to affected residents during recent freeze-related outages and that the project team will distribute fact sheets and plans at the upcoming meeting. The city asked residents to review proposed plans and noted that paperwork, including frequently asked questions, will be posted online.
In related utility work, the city has launched citywide sanitary sewer CCTV inspections with EQIX, which staff said will inform long-term planning. Public service updates also reviewed storm and street maintenance work over the winter, over 1,000 hours of snow-control response in February, substantial pothole repair hours, and recent water-main repairs at 518 West Avenue and 466 Spring Grove Avenue.
Parks and Recreation staff reported high participation at recent events, with family fun night selling 543 tickets and rec center membership rising to 8,140 (a 5% increase year over year). Staff noted that nonresident MACA memberships go on sale March 15 and that facility rentals are exceeding availability.
