La Porte board approves new leadership structure, names Zach Huber director of curriculum and instruction

The La Porte Community School Corp School Board on April 13 approved a plan to reorganize district leadership for the 2026–27 school year, creating a director of curriculum and instruction and a director of business services and eliminating two director-level positions and one assistant superintendent position through attrition.

Superintendent Dr. Wood presented the plan as a move from multiple assistant superintendents toward specialized directors to strengthen oversight of curriculum, assessment and long-term financial planning. "This position will provide dedicated leadership for our pre-K through 12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning systems," Dr. Wood said, recommending Zach Huber for the curriculum role.

According to Dr. Wood, consolidating leadership will improve consistency across grade levels and allow the district to implement the changes in a fiscally responsible way. The superintendent told the board the business-services director position will be posted later in the week and that a search would aim to place a new hire by July 1.

Board members voiced support for Huber. A board member said Huber's work as principal at Howman Elementary showed "the ability to think at a systems level" and to lead collaborative teams. The board moved and approved the recommendation by voice vote.

The approved package included three specific requests: creation of the director of curriculum and instruction position; appointment of Zach Huber to that role; and creation of the director of business services position, to be filled after a posted search. The superintendent said the changes will be implemented while reducing net district expenditures through attrition.
