Student urges Harrison School District 2 to add political-education course for upper grades

During the public-comment period on May 19, student Brandt Spurgeron urged the Harrison School District 2 board to consider a political-education class for juniors and seniors to increase long-term retention of civics knowledge.
"Many students find themselves unable to... recall more than three of the amendments," Spurgeron said, and recommended shifting political education later in the school sequence so older students retain civic concepts. He said he provided supporting sources and petitions to the district.
The board thanked the student for the petition and said the information would be reviewed. No formal action or vote occurred during the meeting.
