The committee reviewed two charter options to create a facilities manager position and coalesced around option B as preferable. One member summarized the role in option B as more strategic, covering capital improvement planning, overseeing construction and renovation projects, and ensuring environmental compliance. A committee member said, "I like option b better than option a... I think it's more of a strategic role."
Members noted the position would coordinate with the asset management program, report to the town administrator and have the capacity to work with planning and building inspectional services. Some elements in option A (operational vendor coordination and routine inventory) were described as tasks currently handled by DPW and possibly appropriate for an ordinance rather than a charter question.
The committee agreed to present both options to the town council with a stated preference for option B and to prepare explanatory material for voters when the question is placed on a ballot.
