The Lincoln County Schools Board of Education voted to enter a closed session on April 14 under N.C. General Statute §143‑318.11 to discuss confidential student and personnel matters and matters protected by the attorney‑client privilege.
"We need a motion to go into closed session pursuant to general statute 1 43 dash 3 18.11 under subsection a to discuss confidential matters particularly student and personnel matters, and under subsection a3 to discuss matters protected by the attorney client privilege," said Mr. Shally, the district's legal counsel. A motion to enter closed session was made by Minkins, seconded by Mr. Sanders, and approved by voice vote; the chair then announced the board was in closed session.
The board later returned to open session and the chair stated, "No action was taken." Following the closed session, the board moved through a consent agenda and approved minutes from the March 10 work session and board meeting, budget amendments as presented, personnel recommendations, extended curricular field trips, the child nutrition procurement plan and rollover bids including the juice bid, an alternative schools modified accountability system for the 2026‑27 school year, and a behavior specialist assistant pay scale adjustment. The consent agenda motion was offered by Miss Long, seconded by Miss Sander, and approved by voice vote.
The board also announced a board work session scheduled for May 5 at an off‑site location, listed in the meeting as "Aptar in LinkedIn," beginning with an 11 a.m. tour and a 1 p.m. work session. The meeting adjourned following a motion by Mr. Jenkins and a second by Mrs. Wyatt.
All motions relating to entering closed session, approving the consent agenda and adjourning passed by voice vote with no roll‑call tallies provided in the transcript.
