Garfield County tourism staff briefed commissioners on outreach work in Washington, D.C., and on local tourism-revenue figures and events.
Fallon reported that outreach to international tour operators highlighted problems with park pass and booking processes that have complicated tour sales. "There's still a lot of hiccups with the park pass for internationals and buses specifically," Fallon said, and said staff are continuing to work through those issues with operators.
Fallon said transient room tax revenue is tracking near $3.3 million and projected to remain at or above recent records, driven in part by higher spending among some visitors despite fewer budget travelers. Fallon also noted the county will host the Department of Alcohol Beverage Services (DABS) monthly meeting locally and encouraged commissioners to attend.
Commissioners discussed tiering for parks and related funding, concerns about point-of-sale changes for restaurants tied to alcohol-policy changes and the need to prepare for forthcoming shifts in state-level policy leadership. Fallon said the county has made outreach and tour-marketing a priority to bring higher-value visitation to the area.
