Gateway School District’s board voted Jan. 26 to approve a set of administrative resolutions, including a partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for the district backpack and food-distribution programs, acceptance of several donations and authorization to apply for a Commonwealth Financing Authority public school facility improvement grant for a roof project.
Finance staff listed donations to district schools (a 96-by-42 whiteboard, $679.94 from a coffee-cart fundraiser, and $1,000 from the Monrovia Alliance Foundation to the district backpack program) and recommended appointments for a school physician and dentist for the 2026–27 school year. The board approved these items on motion.
Administrators also presented a one-year lease agreement with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit Head Start program to add three rooms at Maasai Middle School, bringing the total Head Start rooms used at the site to nine. Finance staff described proposed per-room charges and said the new rooms would be charged $4.32 per month (the transcript reflects dollar amounts and per-room rates as presented by staff); trustees asked for written lease details and a clear accounting of custodial costs before finalizing long-term terms. "I don't actually see the agreement, so I'm not sure what we're agreeing to — duration, dollar value, or anything," a board member said, requesting the contract text for clarity.
The board also received a listing of pending property assessment appeals by parcel and voted to approve the election to apply for the facility improvement grant; administration said board approval was required to submit the application because the grant carries matching-fund responsibilities.
Board members pressed for a black-and-white summary of lease terms, asking that staff provide the agreement text and a clear cost breakdown before future votes. Administration agreed to supply the requested detail and said the one-year lease is intended to normalize per-room charges for outside districts using Gateway facilities ahead of a consolidated lease in July 2027.
The motions for these administrative resolutions were moved, seconded and carried on roll call.
