A district finance representative told the board that the contractor "will not be able to complete the whole project this summer" and recommended doing the roofing and some masonry work now and completing remaining work next summer. The representative said approximately $152,000 would likely be billed in the 2026–27 school year, with the remaining roughly $430,000 billed in the following year.
Board members asked whether dividing the work across two fiscal years requires further board action. One member said the board had approved the money and that the timing of billing is "kind of irrelevant to what you've authorized," suggesting staff might finalize the arrangement through contract review without returning to the full board. Another member said they wanted more time to review the proposal and suggested placing any formal approval on a future agenda.
No motion to change the contract timeline was adopted at the meeting; a previously offered motion was withdrawn and members said they would discuss the final contract terms and timing with district counsel and the finance staff before acting.
The board did not vote on any amendment to the contract at the meeting. Next steps identified were to review the final contract language with district counsel and determine whether administrative action suffices or whether the board should take formal action at a subsequent meeting.
