Board approves Boyce PTO playground funds, small transfer and policy updates; authorizes VSBA award applications

The Clark County School Board approved several routine and budget items April 20: authorization to accept $15,833.06 from the Boyce PTO to fund playground sunshades, a $250 transfer from the operating fund to the FY26 school debt fund, approval of VSBA policy edits as first and second readings, and unanimous authorization for two Virginia School Boards Association award submissions.
Superintendent Dr. Bolling explained the Boyce PTO funds have already been donated; the board’s vote records the acceptance and allows the district to process the expenditure through its books. "This is money they've already got donated just to our account," Dr. Bolling said during the presentation.
On routine policy housekeeping, the superintendent noted the VSBA-provided edits are largely formatting and minor wording changes and do not alter substantive district practice; the board approved them as first and second readings on a motion by Board member S5.
Finance committee member Steve Nucci had earlier described the proposed $16,000 supplemental appropriation (for Boyce playground sunshades) and the small transfer of $250 to cover administrative fees between funds; the board approved the transfer and the appropriation motion was placed on the consent/new-business calendar and approved.
Separately, the board unanimously authorized staff to prepare and submit applications for two VSBA awards: the Excellence in Workforce Readiness award and the Showcasing Innovation award, with the chair signing certification documents when required.
