The Fort Benton School Board voted to adopt the staff-recommended academic calendar (Option 1) for the coming school year after staff presented two draft options and reported a teacher preference.
Presenter (speaker 4) explained that two calendar options were provided to teachers: one starting Aug. 26 and another Aug. 19. She told the board that teachers voted in favor of Option 1 by 58% to 41%, which keeps graduation and the last day of school before Memorial Day weekend. The presenter noted both calendars are similar to the current year and described staff support for Option 1.
A board member moved to adopt Option 1, the motion was seconded and the chair called for the vote; members voted in favor and the calendar will be made available electronically. The presenter said she would provide electronic versions and answer questions as the board finalizes the schedule.
The board did not alter the number of PIR (in-service) days and said more detailed scheduling questions (for example, placement of certain professional days) could be resolved with staff before final publication.
