Residents urge senior lap-swim access at Rosemead, announce BAPS Charities walk and complain about missed bulk pickups

Peter Bugnacki, a Carrollton resident of 40-plus years, asked council to place an item on a future agenda to consider either a senior discount or free resident senior admission for lap swimming at the Rosemead Rainforest. Bugnacki told council the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD natatorium closes for summer maintenance and the city lacks a municipal lap pool, and he argued a senior access policy would serve older residents who rely on lap swimming for exercise.
Volunteer Kavi Shah of BAPS Charities announced a walk/run at Levi Event Plaza in Irving on Sunday, May 31 at 8 a.m. Shah said organizers expect about 1,500 participants and listed three local beneficiaries: Children’s Health, Main Place (supporting homeless teens and families), and MetroCrest Services.
Resident Sal Trippi urged council to revisit the city’s contract with Republic Services, saying weekly bulk trash limits (3 cubic yards) are not being enforced and drivers sometimes collect only part of what residents set at the curb. "The trash bulk trash is not getting picked up... all of that is less than 3 cubic yards. And he only picked up half," Trippi said, and asked council to demand better contractor training or consider contract changes.
The council did not take immediate action on these items during the meeting; public commenters were told the forum does not allow back-and-forth discussion at that time. Council members frequently referred to staff for follow-up on service contract complaints and to return agenda items when policy changes are recommended.
