Great Falls Housing Authority accepts $1.53 million capital grant; staff report construction progress and insurance repairs

The Great Falls Housing Authority Board of Commissioners on April 16 unanimously accepted Capital Fund Grant MT01P00250126 for $1,530,227.00, a motion made by Commissioner David Fink and seconded by Commissioner Jewel James.

The acceptance came during the board's regular meeting after the executive director provided an update on ongoing capital projects. Executive Director Greg Sukut reported that Building 7D’s porch overhang and patio framing are complete, interiors are framed and sheetrock is expected this week, and roofers are scheduled to shingle the roof next week. He said Building 7E’s porches are framed and sheathed, interiors are sheetrocked, cabinets have been ordered and painting will begin within weeks; exterior metal siding, stone and patio trim have been ordered for both buildings.

Sukut also reported progress at Austin Hall: staff have completed work on the third and fourth floors, priming and painting are underway on lower floors, and the project is expected to be finished in a couple of weeks. At the main office, windows have been paid for and are due to be delivered; the board was told the windows will be stored at Austin Hall until installation.

The board was also informed that wind damaged roofs on three Yeoman Tynes buildings. An insurance adjuster recommended full replacement for each building, the site deductible is roughly $7,900, and contractors have been contacted with roof replacement expected in the next few weeks.

The board did not debate the grant acceptance at length; the motion passed by unanimous voice approval. The board scheduled its next meeting for Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
