Castle Valley says Castle Creek culvert guardrail to be installed; road reopening expected next week

Dorje Honer, speaking for the Road Department, told the Castle Valley Town Council on April 15 that the guardrail at the Castle Creek culvert would be installed that day and that the road crew plans to cold-patch Castle Valley Drive over the culvert this week. Honer said he hopes the road will be open next week pending a final walkthrough.
Honer and CM Gibson addressed circulating rumors about the project. They said the contractor did not run out of money and that an engineer’s hydraulic study did not require higher headwalls. They added that paving was not part of the contractor’s bid and that omitting paving saved the Town approximately $60,000–$70,000.
Honer also said the green gate at the bottom of Shafer will be replaced and closed as soon as Castle Valley Drive reopens.
Council members did not take any formal motion related to the culvert at the April meeting; the update was provided as an operational status report.
