Jefferson City board elects new officers, certifies election results and honors outgoing members

The Jefferson City Board of Education on April 16 certified local election results, completed swearing-in for incoming directors and elected board officers during its regular meeting.

The board formally certified election/ballot results as presented by Callaway and Cole counties; a voice vote approved the certification. The chair then invited outgoing members Scott Hovis, Brad (surname not specified) and Suzanne (surname referenced earlier) to offer closing remarks. Scott Hovis, an outgoing member with nine years of service as noted earlier in the meeting, reflected on his tenure and praised district leadership: "The 9 years has been very, very powerful for me to see having kids go through the program, having a daughter graduate."

Following the swearing-in of new members, board members nominated and elected officers by roll call. Anne Blumke Warren was elected board president; Kam Hussey was elected vice president; Carlos Graham was nominated and elected treasurer; and Stephanie Stabenfield was nominated and elected secretary. The board also reviewed upcoming dates including school graduations and district events.

Earlier in the meeting Superintendent McGraw and staff recognized student champions from Capital City High School and Jefferson City High School and highlighted district accomplishments and renovation work tied to a 2023 bond program. Superintendent McGraw said the renovations and program investments have been "a game changer for our schools."

What happens next: newly elected officers will assume leadership duties immediately; staff will proceed with scheduled events and closed-session items announced at the end of the meeting.
