County reports 16 applications for DHCD flood relief after July 2022 Bandy flood

"We estimate through our emergency management department that there are approximately 17 homes that were affected," Staff member (S3) said. S3 reported 16 total applications had been received and that three files were ready to submit to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) after validating titles and damages.
Staff described the validation steps — title validation, damage verification and reasonableness of claimed expenses — and said county emergency-management and legal staff were assisting applicants. S3 said the county aimed to get its applications processed ahead of neighboring Buchanan County.
Why it matters: the DHCD process provides state funding for eligible repair and recovery; submitting completed applications and accurate validations is the next step to getting payments to affected homeowners.
