Commission postpones final vote on revised bylaws and meeting rules until June

Commissioners reviewed proposed revisions to the Jefferson County Regional Planning Commission bylaws and associated meeting rules. Proposed edits included making reimbursement for travel and continuing education follow the county’s prevailing policy, changing the timing for officer elections (proposal to move from January to September), clarifying the attendance/notification language to notify the county mayor about absences, and formalizing delegation of authority for certain two‑lot subdivisions.

Commissioner David Nelson said he incorporated suggested wording changes and recommended staff circulate a clean version reflecting the group’s edits. Commissioners discussed whether the commission or the county mayor/commission retains authority to remove or replace members and proposed simplifying the attendance language to require notification of the mayor. A motion to postpone final approval until the June meeting — at which Nelson will present a revised draft with the discussed edits — passed by voice vote.
