Tolleson Union High School District will seek CTDS number for Estrella Vista Academy and celebrate staff achievements

Sarah Clawson, the district’s public relations and marketing specialist, opened the agenda preview by introducing Superintendent Jeremy Kais and Board President Steven Chapman and outlining items to come at the Tuesday meeting, including staff recognitions and a request to approve a CTDS number for a new school.

"We have a couple of celebrations this time," Steven Chapman said, noting the district will honor a staff member recently recognized as the Arizona Homeless Liaison of the Year and celebrate University High School’s staff and students of the year. Chapman thanked the community for its support and pointed to a recent groundbreaking for a new school project that he said will allow the district to welcome more students from a growing area.

Kais explained the CTDS process for the new Estrella Vista Academy: "When we have a new school ... we have to officially lodge the name and get a CTDS number, which stands for county type district school. So it's a number that's used to identify the school specifically," he said, adding that the district will submit the application to the Arizona Department of Education and that state recognition follows the Department's processing.

The preview also noted a routine agenda item to approve next year’s governing‑board meeting calendar; Chapman said meetings are generally scheduled on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m., with occasional changes around breaks. Clawson encouraged public attendance in person or online for the full meeting.

The preview did not include final approvals; the CTDS application and the calendar are scheduled for action at the governing board meeting.
