Lancaster outlines sister‑city work with Manzini, Eswatini, and plans reciprocal visit

City staff provided a briefing Monday on Lancaster’s sister‑city relationship with Manzini, in the Kingdom of Eswatini, and described a March delegation exchange that included municipal meetings, cultural events and public‑safety and economic development briefings.
The city manager said the municipalities signed a memorandum of understanding and have engaged in ongoing administrative and cultural exchanges since 2015. The March delegation visited Manzini for a full schedule of meetings with municipal leaders, national ministry representatives and the U.S. Embassy representative; presentations covered public‑safety operations, municipal services, technology centers and community‑led economic projects.
Staff said the partnership is intended to be an ongoing, two‑year cyclical exchange in keeping with Sister Cities International guidance. Manzini officials and students are expected to visit Lancaster later in June, and staff are preparing a program of visits and short‑term goals that could identify shared opportunities for business connections and municipal learning.
Council members expressed support for the international exchange as a vehicle for cultural and economic relationships and for staff to bring short‑ and long‑term goals for the partnership to follow up meetings.
