Eagleton Center rental rate increased; Ray County Veterans Association to assume American Legion duties

Ray County commissioners on May 7 and May 14 approved a change to the Eagleton Civic Center rental agreement and heard related community updates.
Commissioner Max Hockemeier moved to approve an agreement raising the Eagleton Civic Center rental rate to $225; the motion carried. Commissioners said a portion of rental revenue will be allocated to the center to assist with maintenance and facility repairs. Bryan Couch of the Eagleton Center later requested an updated phone system, saying the current system drops calls and lacks modern features such as text/image functionality; commissioners said they would review the request and follow up.
On May 14, Jason Blakeman of the Ray County Veterans Association and Jackie Creamer, commander of the American Legion, briefed commissioners on the transition of local veterans’ efforts. The Ray County Veterans Association — a state-registered nonprofit formed April 9, 2026 — will continue community activities, include veterans’ families and become custodian of the building formerly occupied by the American Legion in Ray County.
Next steps: the county will monitor Eagleton Center’s phone-system request and administrative follow-up; the veterans’ groups and county staff will coordinate any custodial and operational transfers of the building.
