Ray County approves bridge contracts and equipment buy; online road-reporting tool proposed

Commissioners also approved a contract for demolition work at the Henrietta Overpass Bridge and reviewed plans for the W 84th Street Bridge.
The commission approved a Gradall equipment purchase through RoadBuilders Machinery & Supply (Sourcewell bid) for use by the Road & Bridge Department.
Ray County Election Clerk Lyndsey Church presented a proposed Road & Bridge communication and tracking form for the county website that would allow residents to submit road-condition reports with photos and severity classifications so Road & Bridge staff could triage and track work. Commissioners expressed support for centralized reporting as a means to improve records and response tracking.
Commissioners also discussed moving Road & Bridge to a four 10-hour shift schedule to increase roadway efficiency and directed staff to prepare a resolution for future consideration.
The commission approved purchases and contracts by recorded motions and carried votes at the May meetings; where dates in contractor briefings appeared inconsistent with the meeting date (a reported anticipated start date of Sept. 19, 2025), commissioners requested confirmation from engineering staff before proceeding.
Next steps: staff will pursue required permits and advertising for bridge bids, finalize Gradall equipment procurement, and return a formal shift-schedule resolution and any confirmed contract timelines to a future meeting.
