Board hears first reading of multiple policy revisions including public‑comment and transfer revocation changes

"The main revision to note that public comment does not apply to board conducted disciplinary hearings... and requires speakers to state their city of residence rather than their actual address before speaking," Miss Green said, summarizing the public‑comment amendment.
On school admissions, staff proposed changing revocation timing for general choice transfers so revocation happens at the end of a semester rather than at any point during the school year. Staff provided context on revocation requests and transfer volumes: district staff said this year they have received about 264 requests for revocation and have processed over 9,000 transfers, and that aligning revocation timing with academic breaks is intended to improve fairness and administrative clarity.
Miss Green also summarized revisions to Title I parental involvement language to align with federal wording ("parent and family engagement"), an update to family life education policy to add a Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA) reference to Aaron's Law, and an expansion of student congress to include ninth and tenth graders and a quarterly student‑board member term to broaden participation.
All proposed policy changes were presented for first reading and will return for adoption at a subsequent board meeting; staff said they will provide additional data (EPDR / neighborhood analyses) where requested by board members.
