Council approves short-term security contract, park facility namings and mobile-food code updates

At its May 5 meeting the Long Beach City Council took several noncontroversial votes that together address city operations, parks recognition and mobile food regulations.
Security services: Council approved a contract not to exceed $175,000 with CSI Patrol Service for private-security services in the Belmont Shore parking and dining corridor on a six-month term. Public commenters urged stronger transparency and performance metrics for the security provider; staff said the six-month term provides time to re-evaluate needs and reporting while preserving continuous services.
Naming: The council approved renaming the Central Facility Center at Martin Luther King Park as the Dale E. Clinton Resource Center in recognition of Dale Clinton’s decades of community service. Family members appeared to accept the recognition and councilmembers offered remarks in support.
Mobile food facilities: Council considered three related ordinances updating Titles 5, 8 and 22 of the municipal code to clarify definitions and operations of mobile food facilities on private property. Vendors and chefs told the council they support expanded operating hours and reduced administrative barriers; all three ordinances were read and adopted as read.
Each of the above items was adopted by a recorded "motion is carried" in the meeting transcript; city staff noted next steps for implementation and for adding reporting and oversight in the Belmont Shore security contract.
