Council approves continued support and indemnity for Beaver Canyon Half Marathon; new director reports strong registration

Beaver City Council on May 26 approved the city’s continued support for the Beaver Canyon Half Marathon after the event’s new organizer briefed the council on registration and logistics.
“My name is Lyle Anderson, and I am here representing the Beaver Canyon half marathon,” the organizer said, noting a roughly 15% increase in registrations from last year and 352 runners registered so far. Anderson said participants come primarily from Utah but that he has registrants from 43 states and two countries (United States and Mexico).
Anderson asked that the city provide the same support as in prior years — use of city facilities and up to $5,000 in direct support — and that the mayor be allowed to sign an indemnity agreement required by Iron County for bus use to transport participants. Council members confirmed the city has provided similar support before and that the indemnity language has been used previously.
Councilor motioned and seconded approval of the request and specifically added authorization for the mayor to sign the indemnity agreement covering the buses; the council approved the motion by voice vote.
What’s next: Anderson said packet pickup logistics will be coordinated with the racetrack and city staff; staff will prepare any necessary indemnity paperwork for the mayor’s signature.
