Students recognized: robotics team, KidWind/KidSolar and CTE signing day honored at board meeting

The Martinsville City School Board highlighted student achievements across STEM and career-technical education programs during its May meeting.
The Mad Dogs robotics team was recognized after advancing to state-level competition. The team's coach described building a robot this year and named Colby Robertson as team captain. Students spoke about problem-solving, redesigning turbine blades and preparing to compete at higher levels.
Miss Milad, a kindergarten teacher at Patrick Henry Elementary, introduced members of the KidWind team and explained they redesigned foam blades to improve performance and advance from regionals to state at James Madison University. The meeting also recognized two KidSolar teams and coaches Montoya Winish and Lynn Suggs.
Separately, a representative from Patrick & Henry Community College said eight Martinsville students participated in an NC3 National Letter of Intent signing and committed to career-technical pathways such as welding and motorsports; the board congratulated the students and their families.
