Trevor Carrier tells Leroy Ostrander board allegations about coach-led push against superintendent are false

Trevor Carrier, a dean of students who spoke during the public-comment period, disputed an allegation read at the March meeting that "a movement to push our superintendent out appeared to have been initiated by some of the football coaches." Carrier said "appeared is not fact. It is an opinion," and urged the board and community to avoid treating opinion as fact.

Carrier told the board he was speaking as a private citizen and identified himself by name and address. He said the allegations had been read publicly at the prior meeting and described the effect of those statements on trust within the district. "When an opinion is present in a public setting as truth, it becomes extremely, extremely dangerous," he said, adding later, "I want to be clear that the statement is a 100% false." Carrier also criticized what he characterized as closed-door discussions and retaliation, and said such behavior erodes trust and harms students.

Carrier spoke about the district's need to recruit and retain educators and coaches, and said internecine conflict undermines the district's reputation and the students' experience. He asked the board to focus on education and to avoid amplifying unverified narratives. He also referenced his role working with students: "I see that every day as your dean of students," he said.

The board did not take action on Carrier's comments during the meeting; public comment concluded and the agenda moved on to recognition items and reports. The board's next regular meeting was set for May 19.
