The United South Central School Board voted to postpone sending its long‑range facility plans to the Minnesota Department of Education, giving district staff another month to gather input and finalize required paperwork.
An agency official (Speaker 4) told the board the delay would “give us another month just to make sure that we're hearing every voice, every perspective that's out there,” and noted the Department of Education review typically takes about three to four weeks and often returns notes. The board approved amending the agenda to postpone agenda item G‑1 until the June meeting by unanimous assent.
Speaker 4 said the facilities task force reviewed community survey results (549 responses: 183 parents, 95 staff and 271 community members) and was able to scale back the proposed project by roughly $1.5 million, placing the estimated project total “somewhere in that $23,000,000 range.” The district plans to return in June to decide whether to submit the plans to the department.
Board members flagged timing concerns tied to Department of Education filing deadlines. Speaker 6 asked about review timing; Speaker 4 reiterated the typical three‑to‑four‑week review window and said the department usually provides revision notes.
Next steps: the board will revisit the facility plan at its June meeting and then, if directed, submit the finalized plans to the Minnesota Department of Education.
