Avon Council, March 31: appointments, proclamations, appropriations and routine approvals

At its March 31 meeting the Avon Town Council took a number of routine and policy items in a single session.

Appointments and task force action: Council appointed five members to the Affordable Housing Task Force (terms to Dec. 31, 2027) and approved an amended charge reducing membership to five, clarifying responsibilities to track new state housing legislation and to report to the Planning & Zoning Commission.

Resignations and appointments: The council accepted the resignation of Tom Kassan from the Inland Wetlands Commission and appointed Brial Toal to fill that vacancy through Dec. 31, 2027.

Appropriations and financial actions: Council recommended supplemental appropriations of LoCIP funds ($58,735.27) and Town Aid Road funds ($116,165.65) for capital and road-related purposes. It approved a motor vehicle tax refund of $1,862.07 and a real estate tax refund of $5,461.87. The council authorized explanatory text for the Annual Budget Meeting and extended referendum polling hours to 6 a.m.–8 p.m. on May 13, 2026 (with contingency dates if necessary).

Proclamations and events: The council approved proclamations for an Eagle Scout and for National Military Appreciation Month (May 2026), and approved a National Day of Prayer proclamation for May 7, 2026. It also approved fireworks for the Avon-Farmington 250 Celebration scheduled for June 26, 2026.
