North Fayette parks board expands event plans for Easter, summer concerts and festivals

The North Fayette Parks & Recreation Board on Feb. 16 reviewed detailed plans for spring and summer community events, including an expanded Easter Egg Hunt and possible new features for its festivals.
Colleen Morris, a board member, said candy and crafts for the Easter Egg Hunt have been ordered and received. Morris said organizers ordered larger eggs for the 0–2 age group and will fill them with age-appropriate snacks; a timed puzzle-building contest is planned for children 7–10, and the 10–13 age group will use Donaldson Park for a separate hunt. Lyndsay Davis agreed to serve as the event’s Easter Bunny. Parks & Recreation Director Darlene Guzik said she will contact her Texas Roadhouse contact about a possible donation and the mascot attending the event.
Looking ahead to summer programming, Guzik said the West Hills Symphonic Band has expressed interest in performing; the board discussed possible outdoor concert dates but did not set a schedule. For Community Days, Guzik confirmed that Bon Journey has agreed to perform and said staff are considering adding a rock-climbing wall to the event’s inflatables.
The board discussed several potential changes to the Food & Brew festival. Guzik said bands under consideration include Tres Lads and Chris Higbee. The board discussed making admission free, shifting tasting logistics so brew vendors charge for product rather than provide free samples, and reducing vendor participation fees; Guzik said the organizers hope to attract 12–15 breweries, wineries or distilleries. Specific vendor contracts, fees, and final admission policy were not decided at the meeting.
Seasonal dates and ideas were also reviewed: the Fall Festival/Trunk-or-Treat is scheduled for Oct. 17 with a rain date of Oct. 24; the November Craft Fair is set for Sunday, Nov. 29 (setup on Nov. 28). For the Christmas Tree Lighting and Jingle Fest the board discussed new features such as a Grinch or Santa meal event, a winter scavenger hunt, and an artificial ice-skating rink, with the tree lighting occurring at the end of the day’s activities.
The board did not receive any public comments during the meeting. Director Guzik said sponsor-letter labels are prepared to begin outreach to potential event sponsors. No formal votes related to event policies were taken during this meeting.
