Willow Park planning commission adopts clearer rules for commission appointments

The Willow Park Planning & Zoning Commission voted on Dec. 16 to adopt an ordinance amending Chapter 14, Article 16 of the city’s zoning code to establish explicit procedures for creating, advertising and appointing planning and zoning commissions.
City staff told commissioners the code currently lacked procedures for commission creation and that the selection language was “contradictory and poorly worded.” The staff presentation said the ordinance aligns the zoning code with Chapter 1, Article 1.05, and includes exhibits showing the existing and revised text. “Staff recommends these changes,” a city staff member said during the presentation.
Commissioners asked no substantive questions during the item, and a commissioner moved to approve the amendment as presented. The motion was seconded and the commission recorded the vote as "all in favor." No public comments were offered during the hearing on this ordinance.
The change is intended to standardize how the city advertises openings and selects commission members; the ordinance also includes standard legal language about repealing earlier conflicting provisions and a severability clause. The commission did not attach supplemental direction to staff when it approved the ordinance.
The ordinance takes effect according to the schedule set in the adopted text and will be published as required by the city code. The commission moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
