Peru board adopts five police policies, cites state statute change on eyewitness identification

Chief Feller said the eyewitness-identification policy is new because of a change in state statute that requires standardization across Indiana departments; he said the district prosecutor's office reviewed the policy to ensure compliance. Chief Feller also described Policy 603 as establishing criteria and accounting processes for informants, Policy 609 as short procedural standards for evidence handling, Policy 700 as expectations for department-issued equipment and property, and Policy 701 as codifying use of issued cell phones and department-related photographic use.
Board members asked no substantive questions and moved to approve the policies in a single vote; the motion carried unanimously.
