Tony Miles, who identified himself as president of the Buckner Chamber of Commerce, told the council the chamber would like to use the city hall facility for regular business meetings and monthly luncheons; he asked the council to place the request on the next agenda for consideration.
Separately, an event organizer gave a detailed update on the Wall That Heals exhibit scheduled to arrive in the last week of July. The organizer said the event will include a large escorted motorcycle procession (more than 200 motorcycles) and a helicopter escort, with ceremonies the Saturday morning of the exhibit that include bagpipes and a historical presentation. Organizers said setup and takedown will require more than 50 volunteers each and that the exhibit costs exceed $25,000, with $12,000 of that allocated to transporting the wall itself. The organizer asked whether the city would consider sponsorship and encouraged councilors to help recruit volunteers and promote the event.
Council members agreed to place the chamber’s facility-use request on a future agenda so the full council can review details; no formal sponsorship commitment was recorded in the transcript.
