The DuBois City Council voted to authorize advertising for an assistant manager Economic Development coordinator position, with an amendment to add an experience requirement to the job description.
Staff presented a draft job description and a draft advertisement and said the position would help monitor city projects and drive economic development. Councilmember Jim asked that the posting include a minimum level of experience; Councilmember Jennifer moved to amend the posting to add that qualifier and the amendment was adopted. One council member abstained, saying they were not sure the role could not be filled internally and that they wanted more information before approving hiring steps.
Resident Debie Meckling urged caution on timing, saying, "I don't agree with hiring someone right now with where we sit financially but I understand the benefit of doing so." Councilors said the ad is an initial step that will still require joint-board approval at a later meeting.
The council directed staff to advertise the position and to present the posting and any subsequent candidates for further review at the joint-board meeting scheduled for July 17.
