Teachers, staff and students honored at Baldwin County work session

Board recognized Elizabeth Von Hof as Alabama Elementary Teacher of the Year, named an assistant principal of the year, honored SRO Lieutenant Shane Nolte on retirement, and celebrated Spanish Fort High's girls golf state championship and a cohort of aspiring principals.
At the March 19 Baldwin County Board of Education work session, the board presented multiple commendations recognizing educators, staff and students.
Chastity Riddick, communications director, announced that Elizabeth Von Hof of Spanish Fort Elementary School was named the 2026 Alabama Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Alabama State Department of Education; the district noted she will represent Alabama in the National Teacher of the Year competition. The board also recognized Erica Crew Thords of Mathis Elementary School as an assistant principal award recipient selected by the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators.
The board honored Lieutenant Shane Nolte for 30 years of service in the Fairhope feeder pattern; Safety Supervisor Jeff Spaller and Mr. John Carwell described Nolte’s mentorship and long‑term impact on students and staff. Spanish Fort High School’s girls golf team was recognized for winning the AHSAA 6A state championship; Coach Emily Hudson and team members were introduced to applause.
Assistant Superintendents Joe Sharp and Dr. Shannon McCready also introduced staff who completed an aspiring‑principals program, naming multiple participants across middle and high schools.
