Organizers of the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Festival told the Los Fresnos CDC on Aug. 4 that the 32nd annual festival (scheduled Oct. 3–4) will include 15 bands, local school ensembles and an out-of-state visiting konjunto, and that festival publicity will include a magazine and a Texas Bucket List television segment.
"One thing we know for sure is that we can have an event when it rains," said Roela Nunes, the festival presenter, noting the covered performance area and the continued commitment of local and visiting performers. Blanca Davis, the festival's advertising-sales representative, described the event magazine and said Texas Bucket List will air a segment the weekend of Sept. 27 on KRGV Channel 5.
Board members said the promotion and advertising committee recommended $5,000 from the CDC to support festival promotion. The motion to approve the service agreement passed unanimously. Organizers said they had ordered flyers, banners and T-shirts and expected that the magazine and broadcast segment would increase regional visibility for Los Fresnos and participating artists.
The festival presentation included details about vendor materials, promotional distribution to nearby markets and plans for contingency during inclement weather. The board thanked the organizers and moved on to its next agenda items.
