Los Fresnos Little League wins $75,000 CDC support; concession stand funding increased

Los Fresnos Little League will receive $75,000 in total support from the Los Fresnos Community Development Corporation after board members unanimously approved funding at the Aug. 4 meeting.
Hector Martinez, the league president, told the board the league recorded a record 510 participants this past season and estimated roughly 1,500 attendees across the season when including family members. "Our enrollment this year was at 510 participants," Martinez said, noting broad volunteer support and community benefits.
The CDC approved two components: $15,000 in general-season support and $60,000 for capital improvements including completion of a new concession stand, scoreboard upgrades and long-term work on the junior field. Separately, the board approved a $4,000 increase to finish the concession-stand project after staff reported final costs of $64,000 (the project was budgeted earlier at $60,000).
League secretary Mr. Gillespie and other volunteers described how funds were used in 2025 and the proposed use for 2026: site work (geotechnical engineering), new scoreboards, bleacher shade structures and improved drainage/light work to help the junior field. The league said scholarship awards totaled about $32,000 last year and emphasized the program's regional draw for All-Stars tournaments.
The board discussed implementation timing; staff said construction for the concession stand would begin in August with an anticipated December completion to be ready for the 2026 season. The motion to approve the Little League funding and the additional concession money passed by unanimous voice vote.
The CDC and league leaders said they will coordinate on parking and access as attendance grows and will provide staff with final blueprint and contractor information for City review.
