Carpentersville honors two officers for life‑saving January response

Carpentersville presented life‑saving awards to two police officers on May 7 for their response to a Jan. 17, 2026 medical emergency that village officials said left a resident without a pulse.
Chief Anna Chevitz said Officer Christopher Mesner and Officer Joseph Stegman entered a residence on the town’s east side and immediately began CPR and deployed an automated external defibrillator. “Their efforts were coordinated, deliberate, and seamless,” Chevitz said, adding that the officers’ actions helped the person regain a pulse and breathing.
Jeff, the resident whose life officials credited the officers with saving, told the board he was grateful: “I don’t know what would have happened to my mother … I wouldn’t be here.” The board presented each officer with a certificate, a plaque and a uniform pin.
The presentation included family photos and brief remarks from staff. No formal board vote was required to honor the officers.
