The Acushnet Planning Board voted unanimously Sept. 5 to extend three solar special permits for one year, moving the permits' expiration to Sept. 14, 2025.
The board acted after hearing from a representative for the applicant who said the Robinson Road project is about "80 to 90% done," that work at 1050 Main Street has advanced though it still requires conservation-related redesign, and that the Woodbridge/Cushing Lane site faces access litigation but has a recent Land Court settlement. "We would respectfully ask that there be evidence that we've made substantial progress and therefore it should not be rescinded," the applicant's representative said during the meeting.
Planning board members said they have seen solar proposals that made no progress and others that progressed steadily; after discussion the board voted to grant a one-year extension for all three sites. Board members indicated the extension gives the applicant time to resolve conservation and access issues, complete peer-review steps and advance interconnection work without the board rescinding permits.
The board did not modify permit conditions at the meeting; staff said applicants must return with any required modifications and that peer-review and Conservation Commission outcomes could affect later approvals.
