During the meeting the General Manager updated the board on several operational items: a site visit by parking consultant Julie Dixon that yielded positive feedback, move‑out coordination and upcoming community events, ongoing coordination with UCSB and the county on policing options, and a county consideration of a cityhood data request.
The GM reported the parking program is functioning with about 1,000 citations processed and a 2–3% appeal rate; a consultant’s forthcoming report will include recommendations for operations and potential improvements. Staff also reviewed move‑out services (including a community yard sale) and said coordinated efforts among agencies remain important during move‑out season.
On public safety, staff described a meeting with UCSB leadership, county and sheriff’s office leadership about options that include hiring specially trained security guards for weekend coverage and hosting nighttime events once per week as a proof of concept; those discussions will continue over coming months.
The district submitted a 25‑page data request to the county for cityhood analysis and staff said the County Board of Supervisors will consider authorizing the work on June 9; staff requested August as a target date to receive the data. The GM also noted the district might extend a consultant contract to complete analysis if needed.
The board scheduled a retreat and a budget town hall and then adjourned; no formal actions were taken on the items reported.
