Board approves slate of job descriptions, program renewals and personnel reports; moves on property surplus and a property purchase

At a special called meeting on May 20, the Montgomery County Board of Education unanimously approved a package of action items (5A–5M) that included job descriptions, program proposals and personnel reports.
Superintendent Dr. Byrd recommended approval of items individually rather than as a consent agenda. Board members moved, seconded and voted unanimously to approve items that included a director of strategy and innovation job description (5A), a director of virtual schooling/education technology (5B), the Cassia K–12 proposal (5C), a Touch Math/Classworks renewal agreement (5D), incentive plans for Chisholm, Highland Gardens and Dozier elementary schools (5E), and the Chisholm Elementary Innovation Lab (5F). The board also approved school-counselor-related job descriptions (5G, 5H) and accepted certified and classified personnel reports and supplemental personnel minutes (5K–5M).
Attorney Powell presented a separate resolution to declare certain district properties surplus, saying the resolution would formally conclude the properties are "no longer useful for the needs of students" and begin the district's disposal process, which could include sale, lease or donation and requires notification to the State Department for possible alternate school uses. "In order to possibly dispose of that property, the board must first declare that property as surplus property," Attorney Powell said.
The board also approved the superintendent's recommendation to purchase property adjacent to Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School. Several motions during the meeting were moved and seconded without recorded individual movers in the transcript; each item recorded a unanimous show-of-hands vote.
Board members flagged that some personnel items contain redactions and asked that the district continue to consider "good name and character" in personnel decisions. The meeting adjourned after the Chair announced the next regular meeting would be Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the same training room.
