Board hears proposal for Program Director of Family and Community Solutions as Communities in Schools grant ends

The Montgomery County Board of Education on May 20 heard a presentation from Dr. Lashley, program director for the district's Family and Community Solutions team, on a proposed Program Director of Family and Community Solutions position to replace services previously funded through Communities in Schools.

Dr. Lashley said the position "would provide leadership, coordination, and oversight for a comprehensive school-based wraparound service," and described it as a role that would guide parent liaisons, collaborate with instructional leaders and counselors, and work proactively to address chronic absenteeism and other barriers to student success.

The board questioned how the new role would coordinate with existing parent liaisons; Dr. Lashley said the director would direct and "target" school-based liaison work so it aligns with the district's transition goals. She told the board the job description identifies the position as reporting to the executive director of student support services and that it is a director-level role.

Board members pressed on funding and sustainability. Dr. Lashley said the district expects to use RAISE Act funds in the near term and to "build capacity" so services continue if year-to-year grant funding lapses. During discussion a salary range of "$90,000 to $116,000" was cited for the position.

Supporters on the board framed the role as student-centered and likely to expand social-emotional and mental-health supports, strengthen family engagement, and integrate community services into school-based attendance and behavior interventions. The presentation was informational; the board did not take a formal vote on the job description during the meeting.

The board moved on to other business after the presentation; the next board meeting was announced for June 9, 2026.
